video-prospecting-script
Use this skill when you want to use short personalised videos in outbound: "write a prospecting video script", "personalised video for this account", "how do I use video in my sequence". Writes 45-75 second scripts that open on the prospect's own world (their site, their post, their listing), show one insight, and end with an easy ask, plus the thumbnail idea, subject line and the email that carries the video. Covers first touches, follow-ups and post-meeting recaps.Use this for Tier 1 accounts where a short video can show, not tell. A personalised video works when the first seconds prove it was made for this person; it fails when it is a generic demo with their name in the title.
Inputs
- Research on the person and account.
- What to show on screen: their website, a post, a job listing, a dashboard example, a before and after.
- Offer and one proof point.
The play
1. Plan the first five seconds
Open with their name and something of theirs on screen. The thumbnail shows it too: their homepage, their post, a whiteboard with their name. The first five seconds decide whether they keep watching.
2. Script it in four beats (45-75 seconds)
| Beat | Seconds | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Hook | 0-8 | "Hi Maya, made this for you. This is Lumen's careers page..." |
| Observation | 8-25 | What you noticed and why it matters for them |
| Insight | 25-50 | One idea or a peer example, shown on screen |
| Ask | 50-65 | Easy next step, said and repeated in the email |
3. Write the carrier email
Short, with the thumbnail as an image linking to the video (a GIF or image of the first frame works; embedded players do not render in most inboxes). Subject: "made this for you, Maya" or the topic.
4. Record fast, not perfect
One or two takes. Natural beats polished. Look at the camera during the hook and the ask.
Example script
[Screen: Lumen careers page, four SDR listings highlighted]
"Hi Dana, I made this quick video for you. This is your careers page: four SDR roles, all saying outbound is being built from scratch.
[Screen: simple timeline of a new SDR's first month]
Here's what usually happens to new SDR teams: weeks one to four go to building lists and researching accounts, so first meetings land in week six.
[Screen: a peer's anonymised before and after]
Northwind changed one thing: each rep got a researched list on day one. First meetings moved to week two.
If that's useful before your new hires start, reply 'yes' and I'll send you how they set it up. Thanks Dana."
What good looks like
- Their world is on screen in the first frame.
- Under 75 seconds; one idea.
- The ask is a one-word reply, not a meeting.
- The common mistake is a two-minute product demo with "Hi " stitched on the front.
Rules
- MUST show something specific to the prospect in the first seconds.
- MUST keep videos under 90 seconds for cold outreach.
- NEVER show other customers' confidential data on screen; anonymise or use approved examples.
Example prompts
- "Write a 60-second video script for the CRO at Fabrikam. They just opened an EMEA office."
- "Turn this cold email into a video script with screen directions."
- "Write a video recap to send after today's discovery call."
